Mojito (hold the alcohol - this one is alcohol free!)
You may or may not know - but I started my sober journey on Christmas Day in 2020 - and it has had its ups and downs (to put it…mildly lol). BUT I have successfully been sober since then. And when clients and friends ask me what I drink when I’m out - or at parties…it’s usually Diet Coke, ginger ale, or seltzer (I truly do enjoy all three of those). I’m not a huge fan of NA beers (even though I was a big beer fan when I used to drink) and sometimes even the NA booze options still give me that feeling like I would just rather have the alcohol in it. But there ARE some drinks that are just refreshing, and delicious, and taste JUST as good without alcohol - because the flavors are so damn fresh. Enter…the mojito.
This is a great way to be a part of the fun, have a delicious drink - and MAYBE also avoid all the questions about why you aren’t drinking. (because that gets old real fast) lol
I mean if there was a drink that LOOKED like summer in a glass…it would be this. And it tastes like that. So here’s the recipe!
Ingredients:
bunch of mint
2T sugar (or 0.5-1T agave)
ice
Lime seltzer (I use the Topo Chico lime w/ mint)
lime
Instructions:
use a sturdy cup (I like using mason jars (they withstand muddling with ease lol)
Drop a slice of lime and a small handful of mint into the cup, and muddle it to release the oils from the mint, and the lime juice from the slice.
Then ad another slice of lime and the 2T sugar (or agave) and muddle it again blending it all together. The sugar will not entirely blend in - but the graininess of it adds to the vibe of the mojito. If that’s not your style - go with the agave (know that agave is MUCH sweeter than sugar, so start with like 0.5-1T.
fill cup with crushed ice (does it have to be crushed? no. Do I think that it helps keep the mind down so it doesn’t all float to the top? yes. Plus - it’s a little moment for your anger management where you get to pummel the ice cubes in a bag to crush it up - and don’t we all need that moment from time to time?
pour in the seltzer, and stir it all up, mixing the sweetener, mint, lime and seltzer
garnish with a sprig of mint & a slice of lime & enjoy!!
