Banana, PB, Blueberry protein smoothie
If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me for a delicious protein snack that was also sweet, and tasted like dessert-but was healthy and also filling, and oh yeah - quick and easy…I WOULD have at least a hundred bucks. idk. what is that, like 2,000 times? Probably close. maybe a little high. But - you get it. I GET ASKED THIS ALL THE TIME.
Also…no judgment on the pic - I wanted to show the prepped look of it. Because this is how I do it (esp when I’m tracking my macros - more tips on that down below)
What you need:
Ziplock bags
Bananas (frozen or fresh)
Blueberries (frozen)
Baby Spinach
PB Fit
Protein Powder (I used Vanilla)
food scale
a sharpie
Instructions:
I do these assembly line style so they all come out relatively even, and it makes it so much easier.
I start with the “wet” ingredients - so bananas are up first. If you are using fresh, chop them up into a bowl, and put the bowl full of chopped bananas on the food scale and hit TARE to zero it out. (if you are using frozen - just put the bag of frozen bananas on the scale and hit TARE). Grab your first ziplock bag, and add in about 80-85g of bananas. As you remove the bananas from the scale - it will have a NEGATIVE amount - that is how much you are putting in the bag/have removed from the scale. Once you hit your desired amount, Write it on the baggie with your sharpie, hit TARE, then grab the next bag, and repeat the process for all your bags, making sure to TARE it out in between each one.
THEN MOVE ON TO THE BLUEBERRIES. Same thing. Put the bag of frozen blueberries on the scale, hit TARE to zero it out, then grab your first ziplock bag, add about 50g of frozen blueberries to the bag (which you will see as a negative number on the scale) then write the amount on the bag - zero out the scale, and move on to the next baggie - repeat for all the bags.
Move on to spinach. Same thing! I added 15g of spinach per bag. I place the plastic bin of spinach on the scale, TARE it out, then grab 15g of spinach to add to the ziplock bag, write it on the bag, hit TARE, and move on to the next.
THEN I move to powders - Place the PB FIT (powdered PB) container right on the scale, you know the drill - hit TARE, I added about 13-15g of PB Fit to each bag (hitting TARE in between each time so it zeros out and I can weigh each time I add to the next baggie. (don’t come for me about this vs. real PB. I use this especially in my smoothies because it is MUCH lower in fat - like 1g of fat per serving in the powder vs. 16g of fat in real PB, and it also tastes the same in a smoothie)
PROTEIN POWDER is up next - put the entire container of protein powder on the scale, REMOVE THE SCOOPER, then hit TARE….I use about 30-33g of protein powder per bag, writing the exact amount on each baggie. Making sure to TARE it out before you scoop for the next bag.
Once you have each bag with all the ingredients, seal them up, and pop them in the freezer! You’ve got high protein, delicious snacks for the week!
Serving:
When you are ready to enjoy your smoothie - Drop the entire ziplock bag into your blender (I use my ninja), then - to make sure I get all that protein powder out of the bag - I just add some water to the baggie, shake it all around, then pour that into the blender - I add a bit of ice too because I like it a lil extra thick. You can also add your milk of choice if you want or even a dollop of greek yogurt for even more protein! (want it to feel even MORE like a dessert?? Grab some fat free whipped cream at the store and add a lil bit on top because sometimes you need to be a little extra to get through the afternoon!!)
BUT - if you are tracking macros, and want to make this even easier - you CAN make a recipe for this in MacrosFirst - then when you are about to make yours, add it to your day, then go in and make any minor weight changes to each ingredient as there are likely going to be some discrepancies from bag to bag.
ENJOY!! If you try it, tag me on IG @hannahj28 or comment below with how you made it your own!
