BIG MAC BOWL

Not gonna lie…I had this for lunch 4 days in a row…and also had it for dinner one of those nights because it is SO GOOD. AND, you can play around with this, make it lower fat by using ground chicken or turkey instead of beef…you can use different leanness of beef if you need more or less fat but still want to use beef…AND IT ALWAYS TASTES SO GOOD!!! It tastes like a Big Mac. Or a burger…I don’t know - it’s been a while since I’ve had a Big Mac. But let’s play around with this recipe. I got the recipe for the beef from Sailor Bailey and then played around with toppings and sauce from there!

Recipe:

  • 1 cup onion, diced

  • 2 lb lean ground beef, or ground turkey (I used 80/20 ground beef)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp cracked black pepper

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

  • 1T olive oil

Optional Toppings

  • shredded romaine or iceberg lettuce

  • cherry tomatoes sliced

  • ALL THE PICKLES (or a respectable amount…but I go hard - always, and only GRILLO’S PICKLES)

  • shredded cheddar cheese

  • sweet potato fries

  • bacon

Big Mac Sauce *optional…but recommended

  • 2 Tbsp light mayonnaise

  • 1 Tbsp yellow mustard

  • 1 Tbsp sweet relish

  • a couple shakes of paprika (about 1t)

  • couple cranks of fresh ground pepper

You can add more/less sauce based on your preference, or you can make a bunch of it and store it in the fridge for when you need it!!

(the instructions for this is…add it to a bowl and whisk it up. So while your meat is cooking, whip this up!)

Instructions:

  • If you are making the sweet potato fries…start with these

  • Chop up 3 medium sweet potatoes into steak fry size. put in a mixing bowl, drizzle with olive oil, shake shake shake in some garlic powder, salt, pepper, some paprika and chili powder. Preheat air fryer to 390, then IN BATCHES add potatoes to air fryer and cook for 15-17 minutes, shaking every once in a while. DO NOT OVERCROWD THE AIR FRYER!!!!

  • Okay - now the the fries are out of the way, add the diced onion to a pan, and cook, adding some salt & pepper. Once they are sweating & slightly translucent, add in the ground beef. Sprinkle with some s&p, and garlic powder.

  • When the ground beef has fully cooked…remove the excess fat/liquid…and add in the Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar and keep it cooking for another minute or two to absorb the liquid.

Serving:

Just like a burger…how you put it together is however you like it! Cheese, no cheese, extra bacon, turkey instead of beef, pickles or no pickles, on mixed greens or shredded lettuce, tomatoes or no…you build it your own way!

I like to do half the bowl as lettuce, and about 4oz of the beef mixture…add some sweet potato fries, tomatoes, and Big Mac sauce…with EXTRA EXTRA Grillo’s pickles and a bit of shredded cheddar cheese.

WHEN I TELL YOU EVERYONE IN THE HOUSE WILL LOVE THIS (unless they are vegetarian…in which case…swap out the meat burger for a veggie burger and keep the party going!)

The macros for the burger mix alone: (and then you can build the rest of the meal from there!)

Serving is 4oz of the cooked beef
